Frequently Asked Questions
What is EMDR therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is an evidence-based approach that helps people process and heal from distressing or traumatic experiences. It works by helping your brain reprocess memories so they no longer feel as emotionally charged or overwhelming. EMDR can be effective for trauma, anxiety, self-esteem, relationship issues, and other challenges.
What can I expect during EMDR therapy?
In EMDR, we focus on specific memories or experiences that feel stuck or unresolved. Through guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, your brain begins to reprocess those experiences in a more adaptive way. We’ll move at your pace, with plenty of grounding and resourcing to make sure you feel safe and supported throughout the process.
Do you accept insurance?
I don’t accept insurance directly, but I can provide a superbill, a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. Reimbursement depends on your plan, so I recommend checking with your insurance provider about your out-of-network mental health benefits.
What is a superbill?
A superbill is a document that includes the necessary information (like diagnosis and session codes) for your insurance company to process out-of-network reimbursement. After each session or monthly, I can provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance provider.
Do you offer a sliding scale?
Yes. I reserve a limited number of sliding scale spots to make therapy more accessible. These are based on financial need and availability. Please reach out if you’d like to discuss current openings or options.
How long are sessions, and how often will we meet?
Sessions are typically 50 minutes long and take place weekly, especially in the beginning. As you make progress, we can adjust frequency based on your needs and goals.
How long does EMDR therapy take?
The length of EMDR therapy varies from person to person. Some clients notice significant shifts in a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term work, especially when addressing complex or longstanding issues. We’ll discuss your goals and tailor the pace to what feels right for you.
Is virtual EMDR therapy effective?
Yes. EMDR can be done effectively online using secure telehealth platforms. I use evidence-based tools and methods to ensure the same level of care, connection, and effectiveness as in-person sessions.
What are your fees?
My current session rate is $175 per 50-minute session. Sliding scale options are available for those who qualify.
How do I get started?
You can schedule a free 15-minute consultation to see if we’re a good fit and to ask any questions about the process. From there, we’ll set up your first session and begin at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
